CBD vs THC: What's the Difference?
The practical differences between two cannabis compounds that are often confused.
Two different compounds
CBD and THC are both cannabinoids, but they are distinct compounds with different legal treatment in South Africa. THC is the compound associated with intoxication; CBD is not intoxicating in the same way.
Why the distinction matters
Product categories are not interchangeable. Hemp products, CBD products and cannabis products are governed differently, and a retailer's listing should make clear which category a product falls into.
- · Check whether a product states a THC content
- · Check whether the product is described as hemp-derived
- · Check any age restriction the retailer applies
