Understanding Hemp Products
What hemp is, how hemp products differ from CBD and cannabis products, and what to check on a hemp listing.
Hemp is its own category
Hemp refers to cannabis plant varieties grown for fibre, seed and other industrial uses rather than for high cannabinoid content. On ZazaMarket, hemp listings are kept separate from CBD listings and from cannabis products, because the products, the rules and the reasons people buy them are different.
A hemp tote bag, a hemp T-shirt and hemp seed oil used in cooking are everyday goods. They are not the same thing as a CBD extract, even when the plant family is shared.
What you will see on a hemp listing
Hemp listings usually describe material and construction rather than cannabinoid content:
- · Material composition, for example hemp and organic cotton blends
- · Weight or thickness of the fabric
- · Dimensions and care instructions
- · Whether any cannabinoid content is claimed at all
Hemp food and seed products
Hemp seed, hemp seed oil and hemp protein are sold as food ingredients. Labels should state the ingredients, the weight and the storage instructions. We do not publish claims about what these products do for your health.
Questions worth asking
Before you buy a hemp product from any retailer:
- · Is cannabinoid content claimed, and is it documented?
- · Is the listing clear about material and size?
- · Does the retailer state where the product ships from and to?
- · Is there an age restriction on the listing?
